RING STORIES #01: ISABEL ULATOWSKI. DESIGNER, BEAR BROOKSBANK.

OVAL-SHAPED RUBY & DIAMOND THREE-STONE GYPSY RING, MOUNTED IN 18CT YELLOW GOLD

Paddy collaborated with Bear to source a lovely dark oval ruby and two diamonds that he would propose to me with as loose gemstones.  I was touched to be involved in the ring he wanted to give to me, as the gesture spoke to me on a sentimental level and to my love for design.

Both Paddy and I respect a wide cigar band, his mother’s and my grandmother’s wedding rings (given to me by my mother) are also quite thick. I decided to marry the continuous width of a cigar band with the hard wearing setting style found in Gypsy rings, keeping the ring height as low as possible to increase wearability.

Strangely my love for gypsy rings came from seeing multi-carat diamond versions on old weathered men in London. There has always been something satisfying about the amount of gold used and the merit in which they display it, especially on their hard working hands.

My ring is 10mm wide, a measurement specific to the proportions of my finger. Features like this are what make the bespoke jewellery process so enjoyable, along with the impeccable skill of our craftsmen in Hatton Garden. I am so grateful to be part of this process for clients and I loved being able to design my own.
